What is a 4G Fleet Dash Cam?
Also known as a 4G fleet dashboard camera, a 4G fleet dash cam is a specific type of telematics device designed to be installed on the dashboard or elsewhere in the cabin of vehicles ranging from cars to HGVs.
Telematics brings together computer science, electrical engineering, telecommunications, and various vehicular technologies and is used to gather, store, send, and receive data remotely. Combining high-definition footage, sensors, and telematics data, video telematics is at the heart of our fleet dash cam system.
The biggest difference between standard dashboard cameras and 4G vehicle dash cams is that standard models store data locally, while 4G models like SmartCam use cellular SIM cards to offer real-time video transmission and cloud-based storage. This allows you to access camera data and footage in real time from any location, as these aren’t stored on any single device. 4G devices also have G-sensors and motion detection to offer event-triggered recording. This means the camera starts recording as soon as it senses an accident, impact, or attempted theft.
